Hartlepool in Living Colour

A collection by Michael Dodds.

About this collection.

Founding member of Artrium, Michael Dodds, created this collection from a series of sketches that he started after taking regular walks during the first lockdown in 2020. He found regular walks with a sketchbook and pencil kept his mind active and boosted his mental health.

Following a project that was funded by Arts Council England, the Artrium enabled Michael to have space, materials, and support from volunteer artists to create an acrylic canvas painting from each of his various sketches. Each piece showcases his trademark free-flowing lines, akin to Picasso, using bright pops of colour to bring each piece to life.

“I really enjoyed doing the project and felt that the gallery needed a splash of colour during this grey time of year. It has made me come out of myself more and gave me something to focus on during this difficult time. It’s been good to see old remnants of the town brought back to life, despite being out in the cold!”.
